This year School the World started the Clifford-Lawler Scholarship Fund through which we awarded five Guatemalan students with the opportunity to continue their schooling in secondary school. A lack of financial resources often precludes these students from studying past the sixth grade. Wendy and Maria Christina are two of the students who are graduating from Rio Mactzul and will be heading to secondary school and they are so excited to be able to continue their education.
"I never could have imagined how rewarding the experience of doing service in Guatemala would be. Just the smiles on the children's faces changed my life. I am now keenly aware of the struggles these children go through every day and I am determined to make further change. I could not be more grateful for this life changing experience. I am so blessed to have helped the children and their families. I think it's incredibly important to raise awareness of these issues so we can help change lives for the better."
Teacher Appreciation Week: The Stars of School the World
We celebrate teachers all year round. But today, on National Teacher Day, we celebrate one of our stars.
