Having gotten the opportunity to live in a privileged part of Maryland for most of my life, I never really thought about the suffering and hardships that people elsewhere have to go through.
It wasn't until I arrived in Guatemala that my eyes really opened. I never expected that this trip would have made me think about my life and what I take for granted as much as it did. Everyone that I met in the community of Chitucur II were so fortunate and they never complained about what they didn't have, they just made it work. They would give us all big hugs and endless thank you's throughout our time there no matter what we did. The friendships that I made along the way with my now bestfriends and with the children and parents of the community is the best gift that I got from the whole trip. There are people out there who have really nothing to live on, yet are happier than most of the people I have met. Without this trip of a lifetime, I would have never learned as much about simple generosity as I did.
